Bianca Baldi
Born in 1985, in Johannesburg, based in Frankfurt and Kwa Zulu Natal.
Bianca Baldi grew up in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa and went on to complete a BA (FA) in Studio Practice and Theory at the University of Cape Town’s Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2007. Baldi was a guest student at the Università IUAV in Venice, Italy in 2010 and went and studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Baldi’s work is informed by a research impetus, where the medium has included installation,photography ,print media and moving picture. Her recent works look at the idea of the natural world : the physical correlation to mythological entrance to the underworld (Lake Averno), an extinct volcano where particular political conditions unfold (Sun City) or currently in her project “Zero Latitude”, the Congo where the physical zero latitude lies as the epitome of a conceptual null zone. Bianca Baldi cresceu em KwaZulu Natal, África do Sul. Estudou na Cidade do Cabo, onde em 2007 completou a sua licenciatura (BA Fine Arts) em Prática de Estúdio E Teoria na Michaelis School of Fine Art, escola com afiliação à Universidade da Cidade do Cabo. Em 2010, foi estudante convidada na Università IUAV em Veneza. Em 2013, concluiu o programa de estudos na Städelschule em Frankfurt.
O trabalho de Bianca Baldi é assente em ímpetos de investigação; a sua execução manifesta-se através de uma pluralidade de técnicas tais como instalação, fotografia, impressão com recurso a tecnologias digitais e imagem em movimento. O seu mais recente trabalho analisa diferentes situações que têm como ponto de partida o mundo natural: a correlação do físico com o mitológico presente na entrada para o submundo (Lake Averno); um vulcão extinto onde tensões políticas estão em permanente risco de erupção (Sun City); ou no seu mais recente projecto “Zero Latitude”, onde a latitude zero do Congo funciona como uma zona nula conceptual.
